WeLoveBirds.org is Proud to Announce the Winners of Our Photo Contest

Congratulations to everyone who submitted photos to the WeLoveBirds.org photo contest. We had almost 200 submissions- each of them showing how much our members love photography and birds.

As many of you noted in your vote- the decision was a difficult one. Thanks to everyone who took the time to go through the photographs to chose your favorite three. We have tallied the results and chosen the top ten to feature on our site. Although these are the top 10 winners, it was an extremely close vote, as nearly every photo received a couple of votes, and usually more.

Congratulations to:

Thanks to all who selected the 'Puffy Bluebird' (163) as one of the winners. I am honored. I love this site and all that it shares with the bird-loving community. Keep up the good work!

Just want to reiterate that the winners of the photos were chosen based solely on the votes of the community. Neither NRDC nor Cornell staff were allowed to submit or vote to ensure that the decision was made purely by the community. Personally, I loved all the winning photos but was also a little disappointed that some of my personal favorites didn't make it into the top ten.

None of the photographs I supported made it in the best photos. I really am not a snarky person nor am I an armchair quarterback and though I have had many opportunities to take great photos of wildlife-including birds I would say I am not a good photographer but I am shaking my head and need to know why these photos were chosen...let me start by saying all of these photos are interesting and by far very much better than any photo I would submit but here goes:
1.) Photo number 143 is of an exotic bird that creates a real problem for the indigenous Trumpeter and Tundra Swans.
2)photograph number 31 is of a showy bird but an easily photographed bird over much of the birds distribution in the east or parts of the midwest.
3.) This bluebird's head is chopped off.
4. This Great Blue (163) has an incomplete reflection.
5. Photo number 2 of a woodie. Why?
Congrats to the winners you have way more guts for submitting your photos so gadflies like me can comment on them.
