Today my husband and I were coming home from Guntersville, Alabama.

We searched today for any kind of birds we could find. We weren't very successful in finding many different varieties but wouldn't you know that as soon as I put my camera in my backpack and decided to call it quits that it wasn't 5 minutes later that we spotted an eagle. He was trying his best to catch a Coot but was not successful. Every time he dove down, the Coot went under the water.

I wish my photos were better but it was hard to capture him moving like he was (I need to learn better techniques with my camera). Anyway, I'm still pleased to have seen an American Bald Eagle (juvenile). :)

I'm so sorry that I'm so late in responding to all of your kind comments about these photos. A year isn't really THAT long, is it? ;)  My daughter got engaged and ALL of 2011 was swallowed up in preparing for that. :)  I appreciate your comments and hope to be a regular again here!

Oh, and Vicki, I can NEVER catch a coot. They are impossible to get near. I don't feel so bad though after seeing that not even an eagle could catch one. ;)

Great captures and what an exciting experience it is to watch the hunt.  The coots are fast at diving, I know because I try to sneak up on them for a shot and they're gone in an instant.  You did a fine job of keeping up with the eagle.

Rachel amazing shoot! I just went through the same thing, it's very hard to capture a moving eagle, but these are amazing shots! All I can tell you about better shooting is to turn up your ISO and shoot at 1/1000th or better and hope for the best. Good stuff

I think you need to ice down your finger. Good job.

You've caught some great shots here.  I would still be getting my camera back out again!  Thanks for sharing.

Isn't that always the way it goes?  I know it happens to me, but your shots are wonderful.  Thank you for sharing them, and nice capture.
