Itchy Redstart - Next online bird behavior class 10% off

I took this photograph on my lunchtime walk yesterday of a male American Redstart scratching.  It’s great to work at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology where this kind of stuff is just outside the door.

I like this photo because it really shows how the redstart pulls his leg up and over his wing, scratching “indirectly” like most (but not all) songbirds.  And it shows off his brilliant orange markings nicely too.

Have you ever wondered how male birds get to be this flashy?  Doesn’t it make them easy targets for predation? Sexual selection and why males are so weird is the topic of week four in our online bird behavior course, Investigating Behavior: Courtship and Rivalry in Birds.  We use exercises with lots of video of birds-of-paradise to get to the bottom of how it all happens.

The next section of Courtship and Rivalry begins next week on Wednesday, 17 August.  For this particular class only, we're offering 10% off all enrollments. Whether people are members of the Cornell Lab or not, everyone receives 10% off for this special section

The course is normally $295 for the general public. The 10% discount brings registration to $265. Lab members already receive an existing discount on the course ($255). Existing members, or people who will join the Lab in the near future, can register for the 17 August session of the course for an additional 10% off ($230).

For more information about the course and this offer go to  http://www.ecornell.com/individual-course-list/co-branded-programs-...

Non-members can register for the class right on that page.  Lab members should call eCornell at 1-866-326-7635 to ensure the additional discount is applied to your registration.  Lab members outside the U.S should call 1-607-330-3200.

Class size is capped at 32 students per section, but there are still some seats left for this one.  I’d love to see you there!
