This past weekend I had over a dozen cedar waxwings flock to my back yard. They perched in my pin oak tree, then one by one flew down to my bird bath. They didn't get to stay long, for a robin fought them off. I have never seen other birds gather in such numbers around a bird bath. Is this common for cedar waxwings?

Comment by Amy on February 12, 2012 at 10:16am Hi Al, I think it's fairly common for waxwings to flock together not only as they feed, forage and travel, but also as they bathe. I have seen groups of them at my own bird baths and like you I have seen them get bullied off the bath by robins. If you look on Flickr you can find quite a few photos of waxwing groups bathing together: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=cedar%20waxwing%20bath
