Birds are already responding to the insidious aspects of global warming. For example, three hundred and five bird species have shifted their ranges north. Bird species are faced with shifting ranges, shifting seasons and exotic plants. Where I live, in the short term, certain suites of birds will be favored over other species. For example woodpecker species will respond well to the aftermath of wildfires and burgeoning insect populations in dying trees wheras thrushes or bird species dependent on old growth forest cover will not be. You can see a simular dynamic play out in Yellowstone National Park where songbirds responded to the large scale fires of 1988 very much this way. This is a short-term response. Over time songbird populations will be vastly reduced as this area dies up.
