"Maria, The 500mm f4 L IS is a great lens. With the .6 crop factor on the 7D that gives you 800mm. With the new version of the 500mm about to hit the market, there should be a lot of used 500's available soon. In fact I may be selling…"

A wonderful feeling.

Today my wife and I were having breakfast and I heard a bang at the front window of our trailer, I looked to see what it was and a Black-capped chickadee had hit the window. The poor thing was very disoriented and it clung to the screen of our gazebo. I went out to see if it was all right and it didn`t fly away. At first I thought it had broken it`s leg and jaw. I slowly lifted it off of the screen and it`s leg was all right, but it wouldn`t close it`s beak, that`s what lead me to believe it`s… Continue

Early Father`s Day Gift.

My wife and I went to Wild Birds Unlimited today to see if they had any new stuff, I`m like a kid in a candy store when we go there, while  I was looking around, she snuck off and bought me the Stokes field guide to North American birds. It sure is a fantastic book, it also came with a cd with more than 600 bird sounds on it. She said not only can you ID birds by sight now, you can do it by learning thier sounds also, very cool. So I`m a real happy camper today and can`t wait to use it.

Unexpected birding day.

My wife and I decided to take a drive out to our trailer today to see how it faired through the winter. We got there and we had to walk to our trailer as we are not allowed to drive in until the park opens in May. We made it to the trailer and I opened it up so we could check things out and I went around back and thats when the birding started. Right away I saw a Brown Creeper, Downy Woodpecker and some Common Grackles. A little later on I saw some Black-capped Chickadee`s, American Robin`s,… Continue

Vernon, Thank you for the nice comments on my photos.  As for the Meadowlark, I looked at that also, I don't think it is a band - perhaps a deformed nail?

Thanks, Vern.  We have seen Trumpeters on this same lake before, but this was the largest group we've seen so far.
