Don't let Congress fast-track the Boreal bird habitat destroying Keystone XL tar sands pipeline

Please take a moment to write to your member of Congress and ask them to vote "No" on a bill that would rush through a decision on the proposed Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline. The tar sands are found deep under Canada's Boreal forests and wetlands - some of the world's most precious bird nesting habitat. The Keystone XL pipeline would bring almost 1 million barrels per day of the dirty tar sands oil from Canada to the U.S. Gulf coast driving destruction of the Boreal in strip-mining, toxic…See More

About me

I work with the Natural Resources Defense Council in the international program and helped create this site. Birds are a natural way to connect people to the environment. What happens far away may not seem to affect our everyday lives until we realize that oil extraction in Canada can hurt our backyard birds where they nest and mining in Latin America where they winter.

Hello Susan,
Thank you so much for your warm and informative welcome! I am a long-time member of NRDC and Cornell Lab. NRDC and EarthJustice are THE conservation organizations I focus on as a member. There are so many others, which is great, yet I am a VERY involved activist/member and feel my energy, emails, letters & donations will be best served by focusing in on NRDC and EarthJustice. I know they often work together and, at times, represent other conservation organizations. Thank YOU for your valuable work at NRDC and again for your welcome. I'm a member of NRDC's Biogems and was pleased to have my essay posted earlier this year. I've just sent a posting with photo as to "Why I Care About Appalachia" in regards to the awful practice of Mountaintop Removal. I use the wonderful programs of Cornell Lab's Citizen Science programs to help keep count of the birds and how they are faring. Happy Thanksgiving! Marcia

Hello Susan,
Although it's a bit belated, I just want to thank you for finding my webpage and taking the time and effort to send along your comments regarding Linda Johns ... I have never blogged before (I'm not even online, at home -- I use either public library computers or occasionally an Internet cafe computer), but as a bird lover, I am thrilled to have discovered this wonderful way to connect with other bird lovers! ... All the best to you and your feathered friends!
