My hawk came back again - He swooped in and picked up a bird that was eating!!  In my field guide he more resembled the marsh hawk - any more suggestions?Continue

"It would be very out of character for a Northern Harrier to be taking birds at a feeder. YOu normally see them gliding low over open, grassy fields."

" One spring when I was working for Dr. Joe Grzybowski on the Black-capped Vireo project in the Wichita Mtns of SW Oklahoma, he and I saw a male BHGR & and a male RBGR in the same bush on the side of a mountain. What are the odds on that? :)"

"You are sooo right! I went to Hasting's and sat and looked at their books (and bought a few too). Thank you for the yellow eye tip. I'm new to birding, as you can tell. "

"That is for sure a Cooper's Hawk. It is NOT a MArsh Hawk (a.k.a Northern HArrier) In your field guide compare how the hawk in the photo has red eyes while the Marsh hawk has yellow eyes. They are cool pics!"

"There isn't much showing on the hawk, but it looks like it might be an adult male Cooper's Hawk. The yellow one looks like an adult male Baltimore Oriole. Not sure why it isn't yellow."

"The other one is probably a female Black-headed Grosbeak, then (Black-headed or Rose-breasted are the choices). The other female is definitely a female oriole. "
