I am
so thrilled that there is a web/blog/site designed for bird lovers! In our super-busy society, fewer and fewer of us humans have the time or inclination to just
stop and appreciate (or better yet, get to know) our beloved feathered friends who truly do bring us much joy! (I'm especially thinking of the lovely songbirds.)
As a beginning, I just wanted to share with anyone who may happen upon my page, that my current favourite Canadian author is
Linda Johns, a rural Nova Scotian artist who is also a known bird rescuer ... She has written a series of wonderful and inspiring books about her first-hand experiences with birds ... I highly recommend her!
There's nothing sad, in my opinion, about "mourning" doves! In fact, just yesterday (March 1st), I was thrilled to discover
two pairs of these lovely ones, sitting contentedly on an overhead wire, as a girlfriend and I completed a nature-walk in the area of the Scarborough Bluffs (Toronto) ...
Here's another delightful find for bird-lovers and wannabes as well: The City of Toronto has recently published a
free soft-cover book titled
"Birds of Toronto: A Guide to Their Remarkable World" ... It is well worth the effort to find a copy for yourself, if you can, either from one of the 99 branches of the Toronto public library or perhaps from the City itself, as this book is filled with photos, graphs, content and everything else to do with birds in the Toronto area, including information from FLAP and Lights Out Toronto! As a novice birder myself, I was thrilled to discover that the GTA is host to
several hundred types of birds! This book is illustrated also by Robert Bateman and a local artist, Barry Kent MacKay. See
www.toronto.ca/lightsout/birds.htm for more details! If you cannot get a copy for yourself to keep, most of the Toronto library branches do have a copy in the library, for borrowing. ... Enjoy!
