The Joys Of Spotting A New Bird

It's always a good day when you get to see a species you haven't seen before. This morning I was able to add one to my list... a black-bellied whistling duck.  I was also lucky enough to come across…Continue

"Nice photos, DaLo!  We did not get any weather today, but even yesterday we got little more than a passing rain shower.  I hear we may be in for some heavy weather this weekend though depending upon what that tropical low does. "

Barred Owls

Although I've "seen" this type of owl before, the sightings have been pretty bad. Hiding behind a tree... back toward me. This time I got two who were posing. 5/22/12 at the Circle B in Lakeland, FL.

One Special Shot

This morning at the Circle B in Lakeland, FL I was thrilled to see both a pileated and a red-bellied woodpecker sharing the same tree at the same time. That's never happened for me before and I'm pretty sure it probably won't again. Here they are.

200 Surprises!

When I looked out my kitchen window around noon and saw a flock of birds, I thought maybe red-winged blackbirds or cowbirds. We don't see many flocks in my area. The group decided to land in a tall pine tree on the street behind my house. I grabbed my binoculars and the camera and went out to take a look. I nearly fainted when I saw what they were!

Second Chance

About a year ago, I was driving by a church in Winter Haven, FL. They have a huge cross out front. It must be nearly 100 feet tall. Up at the top were 2 bald eagles. I couldn't stop at the time and was sure I'd missed the shot of a lifetime. Every time I'd pass by that church after that I'd look to see if the eagles had come back but they weren't there. That is, until today! They are one of 2 pairs I've seen in Winter Haven

I took this picture in my back yard.  I have one feeder that the pigons, doves, redwing blackbirds, mock parrots and one squirrel all share. Today the parrots and the squirrel was  on either side of the feeder at the same time. Quite a site. Lots of fun. We have peanut feedeers that the bluejays , grackles , and sometime crows  go to. You never know what will show up . Wednesday the Everglades stork showed back up after being gone 5 months. He's my buddy and stays in my back yard a lot of he day after he is finished eating fish from the lake. I named him JD for his huge nose after Jimmy Duranty!  Have a fun day. D.T.

Roberta, you and I have many similar photos , especially of the Sandhill cranes.  I absolutely LOVE them.  The past 2 years, we've had two babies be born. last year there were two eggs, then one disapperared; and this year two babies were actually  born, but one disappeared.  I live near a pond, and they love to build their nest their.  We've had gators(we had it taken out) and Eagles, Osperys, Egerts and more.  I love your pictures.  Great work!
