This dark colored bird looked like it flew in with the Indigo Buntings. I'm thinking that it just may have gotten a lot of brown on it's head, because the Buntings all seem to have varied blue and…Continue

"When you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras.  This is an Indigo Bunting transitioning form nonbreeding to breeding plumage.  They are brown in the winter and some of that color is leftover."

The American White Pelican Doesn't Dive Bomb for Fish (2nd try)

Paddling our Canoe on the Snake River at The Grand Teton National Park ( in Wyoming), I heard a squeaking sound from overhead and saw that the noise maker was coming from the flapping wings of one of North America's largest birds, an American White Pelican. I love the brilliant white of the Pelicans, and you can only see the black feathers on their wings when they are flying. These large birds weigh about 30 lbs, can… Continue

Camping in the most lovely park of America: The Grand Teton National Park (Jackson, Wyoming) I found so many birds to photograph: Eagles, Hawks, Pelicans, Falcons, Herons, Cranes and songbirds galore. There were definitely more birds than mammals to photograph and I thought I'd share some of my pictures of those birds who "stalk" the American Bison for food and… Continue

This Barn Swallow was making its nest with its mate when I took this picture on July 15th 2010. A few days later I went for another shot and found that the nest was…
