Not sure if this is a Mottled Duck or an American Black Duck?  Maybe a female Mallard?  The dark eye stripe is confusing me.…Continue

"So they're still migrating. I bet it's a mature adult and a second-year bird still coming into breeding plumage. Very nice photos!"

"Wilson's Plover. When did you take the photos? The adult doesn't seem to be in high breeding plumage yet, and it seems late for one in adult non-breeding plumage, but it seems a bit too dull to be a breeding female."

What birds are these?

I think this may be a Yellow Rumped Warbler - not sure - maybe a Palm Warbler?  Maybe neither one?

I think this one might be some type of flycatcher?  At first thought it was an Eastern Phoebe - but color is wrong.  Not a great shot.  Any thoughts?…

Morning in the marsh

Both yesterday and today, another pair of juvenile Great Blue Herons have made an appearance.  These two are from a different nest than the one I have been following.  They are stepping out, away from the nest, watching all of the action below!  I imagine they will all be flying away soon.

There have been…

Dick - that is great!  Yes, I do love wood storks!  I will have to try throwing them a little bread.  There are about 5 or 6 that show up across the street from out house (big pond/swamp area).  They are not there everyday, though.  That must be nice to see your guy twice a day!

You mentioned you like wood storks. I have one that has taken residence in my back yard. He comes in every morning about  6:00 and bangs on the sliding glass door for some breakfast. Again at 5:00 every evening. ( I only give him a very little bread. Bread is just a filler . He needs to fish the lake for food.)  I named him JD . Short for Jimmy Durante. Because he has a huge nose!  Lots of fun!

Glad to be a part of this! I started bird watching and taking their photos at last year's GBBC. Since then have taken thousands of photos and also learned a lot about birds! I have a great back yard (5 acres with wetlands and marsh in back) and have thoroughly enjoyed learning as I go!
