"Denise I got the D7000 last May and have never looked back. I also just purchased the 300mm prime lens. I've max the sharpness out of the 70-300mm and so I've gone the next step, the prime 300mm. But I got the AF which is cheaper and…"

"Denise, I had the same "dilemma" a few months back. Upgrading from a D40 which I had been given, I went with the D7000 simply because it does not limit "auto focus" capability like the older D40.  In short, it seems to me…"

Nikon cameras w/internal focus motors or without?

I currently have a Nikon D60, it's an older camera but I still love it.  I have 3 lenses and was just given a new one that is causing me a little cause to pause.I have the following Nikon lenses: VR 18-55, VR 55-200, VR 70-300 and now a VR 80-400.The first 3 have auto focus motors in the lens the last one does not and needs a camera with an internal focus motor to autofocus. I have thought about buying a Nikon D90 for many reasons but not sure really.  If I do that all of my lenses will…See More

Oh wow - Texas has so many varying habitats - you probably get to see all kinds of unusual migrating birds. We have lots of native birds similar to yours - cardinals, robins, blue jays, mockingbirds, and  crows are probably the most common. Then due to the proximity to the ocean, salt and fresh marshes, we see great egrets, blue herons, snowies, osprey, bald eagles, brown pelicans, kingfishers, etc. We have some birds here that weren't here when I was growing up back in the dark ages - like Canada geese and grackles. Carolina wrens are common - and our state bird. I'll think of more!

Thanks, Denise! Where do you live? I mean generally - I am not a stalker! I live in coastal SC just below Myrtle Beach, so I get to see some great birds. We've even had roseate spoonbills for the last couple of years!

Thanks Denise, always look forward to hearing from you.FUNNY THING about my ROBIN in BIRD BATH pic - it was actually MAD- other birds kept coming to the bath trying to DRINK water and the ROBIN was MAD- it went on for like 10 minutes-the robin was like " GOOD GRIEF,can I not take a bath and enjoy myself for 5 freaking minutes???" It was HILARIOUS.....too bad no bubbles to add to pic for its bubble bath,LMAO,CYA

I wrote early to Santa Claus and asked him to skip my house; head straight to yours with a 400 or 500 mm lens. Every bird lover deserves to have a nice, big lens!

Denise, my 500 mm lens weighs 9 pounds; with the tripod, flash, and other stuff, the whole package is about 20 pounds. That's what I am using to get my still shots. The aerial hummer photos are taken mostly on a special tour using the leaders' equipment. I will be posting hummer photos over the next several months.
