Dispatches from the Gulf

A year after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill began, the repercussions of the spill continue to be felt. What will happen to the birds currently nesting in this region and to the many birds expected to touch down or stop in the region during their fall migration? The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology bring you up-to-date information about the impacts of the Gulf disaster on birds and other wildlife, on the complex ecosystems of the Gulf region, and on the health and livelihoods of the people of the region. We invite you to help by taking action with NRDC to protect birds from further threats resulting from our dependence on oil, or by joining the Cornell Lab in reporting your bird sightings to aid clean-up and recovery efforts.
