Does anyone have a recommendation for an inexpensive (under $500) digital camera for birding?  My old one is just not working for me anymore.  Any suggestions?

Hi; I have a Canon power-shot SX40HS,I think it's a beauty, it has targeting and alot more,go to Canon.com, and check it out,under $450.00. Good Luck =

Targeting is great for flying birds=

I am definitely researching the Canon Power Shot's an the Nikon line.  So hard to choose!

Get the canon power shot sx40hs. Nice reach and is very clear.

Also check the reviews on Amazon. Users can tell you how they like or do not like the camera.  Users also post pix taken with their review cameras.    Make sure to budget in extra batteries.  You may need to buy a memory card also.  Make sure if the camera does come with a card that it is big enough to be practical.  A woman in one of my classes bought a camera that came with a 20 shot card. That is about three minutes of taking bird pictures on a bad day.  On a vacation I can shoot over a thousand photos.

I would recommend that you look at the Canon 40SX IS. Right at $400.00.
